Sina Bari, MD, on Careers in Tech and Medicine

Some of the most important sought-after careers today are in medicine and computer science. For Sina Bari, MD, both of these careers have proven to be ones that he’s passionate about. The journey he made through both of these careers allowed him to indulge in his passion for both subjects.

Computer Science and Tech Career

From a very early age, he was fascinated by computer science. He had a real knack for programming computers and started to learn to program at the age of eight. He sat next to his mother at that age and translated her programming textbooks. He then went into both parallel computing and networking. This was made possible by getting an award during high school from the National Science Foundation. It allowed him to pay his way through his undergraduate degree as well as through medical school and allowed him to work in IT. He was still fascinated with IT, but he had passed medical school and was ready to become a doctor.

Dr. Sina Bari Plastic Surgery Experience

Medical school was a great foundation for the medical career he would have next. He had placed among the top graduates of medical school, and this allowed him to be one of three people to get a great honor. This was a six-year, accelerated residency in plastic surgery at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. He jumped on this opportunity and went into the Stanford residency to learn all he could in the plastic surgery specialty. He worked with plastic surgery leaders and learned many advanced surgical techniques. He worked in aesthetics as well as in reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, and hand surgery and learned the best, most modern techniques. As he worked as a plastic surgery resident, he was glad to be able to work with technology again. He worked in device development through Stanford’s bio innovation program. His many years of tech experience had given him the skills he needed to work on this program and keep building his skill set.

After Dr. Sina Bari finished the plastic surgery residency, he went to work at the Palo Alto Veterans’ Administration hospital in the plastic surgery department. After his time there, he joined a San Francisco plastic surgery practice in the North Bay area. He saw many patients there and specialized in breast surgery as well as the rest of the body.

Back to Tech

After many years in plastic surgery, Sina Bari went back to the tech world. He became a solutions architect with iMerit. He learned many new skills there and was able to learn all about creating large-scale, industrialized data annotation pipelines. He did this for many different industries, including finance, autonomous vehicles, and agriculture. He began to integrate his tech skills and his medical skills together and do a lot of good for the healthcare industry. He created best practices that would help the healthcare industry to get through the lack of availability of high-quality training data. He has enjoyed both of his careers and has enjoyed the way they could work together to serve the public.
