Positions to Grab: Giants on the move

The Giants were just a two-win team up until Week 15. Although, at least Eli got a pair of wins in his last games played and Daniel Jones continues to show promise as the new face of the franchise. He tossed for 352 yards and 5 TDs against the Washington Redskins and 301 yards and one TD and INT each against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. The Cowboys are a mess for having so much talent and the Eagles are just mediocre.

Joe Burrow is the new favorite to go No. Let’s focus on positions and players that they can target in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Draft Targets

Not every draft pick is going to have an immediate impact like Sequon Barkely or Daniel Jones. Whether they grab a top DE or OLB in the draft, they need an edge rusher who can create an immediate impact. If Chase Young is still available when the No. 4 pick comes around, I don’t see any option other than taking him.

If not, A.J. Epenesa out of Iowa would be another player that could be an instant starter and make an immediate impact for Big Blue. That said, some people might say that the Giants should take Jeff Okudah from Ohio State with their No. So if the Giants miss out on Chase Young, it wouldn’t be a bad decision to go with the star corner from the same team. He would make an immediate impact with the Giants filling a gaping hole.

Chad Slade is on the reserve/future contract but if Remmer and Eric Smith is around, but those are both second string guys. Nate Solder is willing to move over to RT to help out but he has played rather poorly since coming over from the Pats. Unfortunately, Gettleman doesn’t seem to like to spend draft picks on the offensive line, so we’ll have to wait and see if he goes for a guy like Austin Jackson from USC, Jedrick Wills of Alabama, or Tristan Wirfs from Iowa. It is an immediate need and as I said before, perhaps they can use a pick on Okudah to trade back for a star OT and some and an additional picks package.

Perhaps they would end up filling both needs, by getting a great OT and an effective 2nd-round pass rusher like Terrell Lewis, EDGE from Alabama or LSU’s star OLB, K’Lavon Chaisson. To me, this would be the way to go. Chaisson is a game-changing playmaker who can work as a straight pass rusher or in a cage rush scheme. They would get a quality player ‘on the cheap’ and fill multiple gaps with young talent.
