SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (April 24, 2020) – Off the Grid, the quintessential champion of the mobile food movement in the Bay Area and beyond, announced an innovative partnership with the City of San Francisco to provide prepared meals to feed low-income individuals and their family members who have tested positive for coronavirus while they are quarantining at home. The initiative quickly took shape on April 13 and in the first week, Off the Grid organized and delivered more than 2,800 meals to over 340 people in need. The company expects to increase the number of meals delivered each week through the current shelter-in-place order until May 3. As of the time of the release, 5,025 meals have been served to 46 families.
“The City’s private partnerships are critical to COVID-19 response efforts,” said Mary Ellen Carroll, Executive Director of San Francisco’s Department of Emergency Management. “We’re committed to tapping into and supporting our local business community as we serve the City’s vulnerable populations during the shelter-in-place order.”
Off the Grid utilized its mobile business model and agility of event management staff to quickly create and execute the meal drops. Currently, OTG is organizing three meals per day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, from popular Bay Area food creators including Cielito Lindo MSK, Sip N’ Slurp, The Waffle Roost, Cochinita, The Sarap Shop, The GrilledCheezGuy, Jackrabbit, SFChicken Box, with many others to come. Meals include a main and side dish with a vegetarian/vegan option. Off the Grid’s Creators drop-off fully assembled and labeled meals at the OTG warehouse in San Francisco where staff sort them into curated packages for each family and drive to each residence to drop off the meals with contactless delivery. Each family is provided with three deliveries each week supplying 2-3 days of meals.
